The Dalai Lama's Recent Statements on Vegetarianism

At a conference held in India yesterday hosted by HSI (Humane Society International), which was also attended by Anil Kapoor and Pritish Nandythe, the Dalai Lama explained his own history of eating meat and made statements in favor of vegetarianism and opposing factory farming.  According to a blog post by Wayne Purcell, who is the Executive Director of the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the Dalai Lama is reported to have said that:
"...he condemned factory farming, and specifically the rearing of hens in battery cages. He said that being vegetarian is better for us and better for animals, and that South Indian vegetarian food is his favorite cuisine. Throughout his entire speech and in the question and answer session that followed, he wore a Humane Society International baseball cap, which delighted me even though it clashed with his Buddhist monastic robe.”
This is obviously a HUGE endorsement for the choosing to go vegetarian!  It's easy to do... if you need help, visit http://features.peta.org/vegetarianstarterkit/ for recipes and other information.
